On April 21 2007, the Alumni staff stepped up to the plate and made a dream
come true for our entire club. A program called “Go and Play” was created by
the Alumni which will enable the Club to allow some low income families and
other needy children to participate in our sports programs.
Jack Moore presented us with a $3,000 check to start the fund. Children that
couldn’t afford to play in the past may now have an opportunity to.
In the past, coaches, parents, staff, and others would pay registration fees so
that needy children could play. In 2006 we estimated that roughly $2,800 was
taken out of people’s pockets so that children could play.
The worst feeling at the Club is when you ask a child , “Are you playing sports?”,
and you hear that they can’t because Mom or Dad doesn’t have the money.
This program exists specifically for those kids.
A committee has been formed to determine whether a child is eligible to
receive funds. To keep the program alive, during all registrations the Club will
have a bucket on the table seeking donations for this program. Any amount will
help, even coins. Donations can also be added to any Visa or MasterCard
purchases.
